The Amsterdam School for Heritage, Memory and Material Culture (AHM) are currently accepting applications from talented and motivated students for the academic session 2024/2025.

Eligibility

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the University of Amsterdam, specifically focusing on critical audiovisual heritage and archiving.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Hold a completed Master’s degree in Arts & Humanities with an emphasis on critical audiovisual heritage and/or archiving, or provide a signed letter from their supervisor stating they will graduate before 01 August 2024.
  • Demonstrate excellent research skills through an outstanding Master’s thesis and the promise to develop a track record of publishing in high-ranking journals and/or with leading presses.
  • Possess a strong cooperative attitude and willingness to engage in collaborative research.
  • Show enthusiasm for communicating academic research to non-academic audiences.
  • Have familiarity with marginalised collections, including but not limited to (post)colonial, subcultural, and community-driven archiving initiatives, and/or questions of restitution/repatriation.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with or a demonstrable interest in Critical (Digital) Heritage approaches, involving a collaborative, community-driven component.
  • Have a good command of English and other languages relevant to the archival research laid out in the PhD project proposal.

Please note that candidates who already hold a doctorate/PhD or are working towards obtaining a similar degree elsewhere will not be admitted to a doctoral programme at the University of Amsterdam.

  • A research proposal of 800-1000 words, demonstrating how the candidate would approach the project
