The University of Nairobi (UoN), in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), is pleased to announce the call for applications for three fully funded PhD scholarships under the project titled “Governing Nature Based Solutions: The prospects for a just green transition in Kenya” (JUCAN – Justice, Carbon, Nature).
Eligible candidates for the 3 PhD scholarships in the Governing Nature-Based Solutions Research Project must be Kenyan nationals possessing a documented master’s degree in fields such as Development Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, Economics, Conservation Science, or related disciplines. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in qualitative or quantitative research methods and exhibit a strong commitment to full-time engagement in the PhD study.

Successful candidates will receive fully funded scholarships covering expenses for equipment, fieldwork, participation in courses and conferences, monthly allowances, and two three-month stays in Denmark. Enrolled PhD scholars will work closely with supervisors from UoN and UCPH or DIIS, with an option for obtaining a double degree. The scholarships are for three years, commencing in September 2024. Shortlisted applicants will undergo an academic assessment, followed by an oral interview and a written aptitude test.
