Soroptimist International of Adelaide Inc Olive Johnston Travel Award in Australia

Soroptimist International of Adelaide Inc. is pleased to announce the Olive Johnston Travel Award, an annual scholarship designed to support tertiary-level women in South Australia who seek to broaden their knowledge and expertise by attending conferences or seminars, either face-to-face or online. This travel award offers financial assistance up to $1,000 and includes a one-year membership to Soroptimist International Adelaide Inc.

The Travel Award will be of a monetary sum of up to $1000, or such lesser amount as determined by the Selection Committee, and will be awarded by 1 September 2024. The winner of the award will also win a one year membership to Soroptimist International Adelaide Inc.

Eligibility

• Eligible Countries: Residents of South Australia
• Acceptable Course or Subjects:  The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university.
• Admissible Criteria:
  • Female applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • The Travel Award will only be granted for forward projects. Applications cannot be made for travel that has already occurred.
  • The Travel Award cannot be given twice to the same person, but previously unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to re-apply.
  • Applicants must apply before July 31st of each year to be considered for that year’s Travel Award.
  • The project must be for travel to a meeting, seminar, symposium, or conference, either in Australia or overseas, as part of a tertiary course of study. The travel must further the applicant’s studies and/or research.
  • The Selection Committee may request further information and/or a breakdown of anticipated expenses associated with the travel.
  • The Selection Committee may interview candidates and dispense with any aspect of the eligibility criteria at its discretion. The decision of the Selection Committee is final, though feedback will be provided upon request.

Conditions of Award:

• The Award is conditional on the recipient presenting a written report within six months of returning from the travel and speaking at a meeting of Soroptimist International of Adelaide Inc.
• The recipient must publicly acknowledge Soroptimist International of Adelaide Inc. as the donor of the Award whenever possible.
